RAINBOW TROUT

Rainbow trout are very much like Brown Trout and are as popular to catch.

Rainbow Trout are a good fighting fish. Rainbows are more of a surface to mid water fish and are very good to catch on lures.

Rainbow trout are found in a lot of the same waters as the Brown trout but are more prevalent in the river systems where the water temperature is colder. Rainbow trout tend to come out of the water when hooked and put on a spectacular show.

Rainbow trout can be caught on bait, lure or fly. Baits include mudeyes and worms.

Lures include Minnow style or Tassie devils.

Fishing for these fish under a float is a good way to land one of these great fish.

Quite often while fishing for Rainbow Trout you will hook a Brown trout.

Eating quality is good. Simply wrap in foil with lemon, salt and pepper and cook.

Victoria's streams and lakes are classified into groups for the purposes of regulating salmonid fisheries (rainbow trout, brown trout, Chinook salmon and Atlantic salmon). Each group of waters is defined by whether or not it has a closed season for salmonids and the daily bag limit.
